What Does Machining Mean?
Machining, in its most general definition, is the process of shaping a material to give it the desired properties. The material removal process is applied to the materials in the form of layers using certain tools. These materials can be wood, plastic or metal. These materials are given surface, shape and size properties. The material at hand gains a new form with cutting tools.
Types of Machining
There are different types of machining process. Turning provides cost advantages such as precision manufacturing and shorter production time. Circular shaped parts are produced on lathes. And hole drilling process is also applied.
Another type of machining is milling. Milling Machine is the name given to the machines that shape by removing the chips from the material by means of the cutting tools.
Drilling is the process of making cylindrical holes on the designed material.
The part that performs the reaming process is called a reamer. It is a cutting tool used in parts with precision surface quality. The purpose of this process is that the desired piece is obtained with accurate dimensions and a sensitive surface.
In the grinding process, however, hard and abrasive parts are fired together with organic and inorganic binders. It is rotated at high speed on the grinding machine. Depending on what properties the material is desired to have, shaping is performed.
What are the Advantages of Machining?
Machining provides many advantages.
- First of all, there is a wide range of materials that can be processed for machining. In this respect, there is no material shortage for machining.
- Another important advantage is that any desired part can be obtained thanks to the machining process. Pieces of all shapes and sizes are easily obtained by this process.
- Another of its most important advantages is that designs can be obtained. Shapes that can be designed in digital platforms such as computer programs with millimetric calculations can be made in this process. It is possible to produce them with the right dimensions and make them ready for use on clean surfaces.
